The reconstructive toolkit
Local and regional flaps, free flaps, and skin grafts are core techniques of plastic surgery — used whenever a wound or defect cannot be closed directly. Dr. Steffen’s training and research include progressive tension closure techniques (published in Annals of Plastic Surgery) to reduce seroma after major reconstructive work.
Applications include oncologic reconstruction, pressure wounds, post-traumatic wounds, and coverage of exposed hardware or bone.
